University of British Columbia (UBC)
Multi-Classroom Digital Upgrade
The Project
UBC engaged Chroma to design and manage fifteen classroom AV system upgrades across six different buildings at their Vancouver campus in 2017. In 2019, Chroma was engaged again for a larger project of seventeen more learning spaces. The goal each time was to advance UBC's ambitious plans to standardize digital display technology across the campus.
The Challenge
Chroma coordinated a diverse group of stakeholders including facilities staff, IT staff and departmental representatives. In total, six different faculties were consulted on the designs. We managed outside and internal contractors over a compressed timeline to complete the projects.
Working in buildings aged 10 to 90 years old, we designed around hazardous material and challenging infrastructure to bring each space into the 21st century. Close coordination with install contractors and on-site teamwork quickly solved the challenges these worksites presented.
The Result
Classrooms across campus are enabled for digital projection and wireless video sharing. All systems connect back to UBC's central AV management platform, and are monitored by the helpdesk. UBC is one step closer to digitizing all learning spaces on campus.
